Biography

I’m a short story writer from Dundee, Scotland. I have been awarded Cove Park’s Scottish Emerging Writer Residency (2019), a Scottish Book Trust New Writers Award (2017), and the Dragons’ Pen at Edinburgh International Book Festival (2010). I was shortlisted for Scots Writer o the Year (the Scots Language Awards), the Royal Academy and Pin Drop Short Story Award, and Bloody Scotland’s Short Story Competition.  My stories have been published in Scotland After the Virus (Luath Press), A Short Affair (Scribner), Scots Hoose: Scots in Schools,  For Books’ Sake: The Weekend Read, Riptide Journal, New Writing Dundee, and Gutter Magazine.  I was commissioned by the Scottish Book Trust to write stories for their Rebel project and the Edinburgh International Science Festival, and invited to read my work at the Scottish Parliament. I hold an MLitt in Creative Writing with Distinction from The University of St. Andrews and a BA (hons) degree in Theatre from Dartington College of Arts. I’m available for author visits and included on Scottish Book Trust’s Live Literature Author Directory.
